Project #XmasPiLights

Reading College and Energenie's Christmas lights project

Energenie has teamed up with Reading College to create a 15 foot Christmas tree powered by Twitter.

At the end of every term Reading College have a 'Go Further' week whereby students are pushed to go beyond what the curriculum requires. At the end of this term they have built a Christmas tree powered and controlled by Energenie Remote Sockets and switched by Raspberry Pi via a Social Media API associated with the #XmasPiLights.

The tree will be in the main foyer of the college and stand at 15 foot high. There will also be a live feed of the tree so people can watch the activity and see it switching please follow this link to see the live stream.

The lights will be switched on by a VIP on the 8th of December and after that anyone can switch the lights via Twitter, Instagram and Google+ using #XmasPiLights

The tree's been completed over the weekend, take a look at this time lapse video to see it being built in a flash.
